What We Collect

Discs collects minimal data to operate. When you first open the app, an anonymous account is created via Firebase Authentication. This account has no name, email, or personal information attached to it. A random identifier is used to track your rip count during the free trial period.

During the free trial, we store a count of how many CDs you've ripped in Google Cloud Firestore, linked to your anonymous ID. This is used solely to manage your free rip allowance. Once you purchase the app, this counter stops updating.

Metadata Lookups

When you insert a CD, Discs sends disc information (such as track count and disc ID) to our own metadata servers to look up track names and artist information.

Album art is fetched from the Cover Art Archive, a third-party service, using the same disc information.

When Discs verifies a rip, track checksums are sent to CTDB, the CueTools Database, a third-party public database of known-good rips. This is used to verify your copy and to repair read errors. Checksums are derived data and contain no audio or personal information. Verification is on by default and can be turned off in settings.

Your Music

All music you rip is stored on your device. Discs does not upload your audio files anywhere.

Purchases

In-app purchases are processed through Google Play Billing. We verify purchase receipts server-side to confirm validity but do not store payment details. Google handles all payment processing.

Analytics & Crash Reporting

We use Firebase Analytics to understand app usage patterns and Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash logs. This data is aggregated, anonymized, and used solely to improve the app.

We also collect install attribution data from Google Play, known as the install referrer. This indicates how the app was discovered, such as the campaign or link that led to the install. It contains no personal information and is used only to understand where our users come from.

Website

discsmusic.com uses Google Analytics to count visits. Analytics cookies are set only if you allow them in the consent banner. If you decline or ignore the banner, no cookies are set and no identifiers are stored in your browser; Google receives only aggregate, cookieless pings. Your choice is remembered in your browser, and you can reset it by clearing the site's stored data.

Data Deletion

Since your account is anonymous, uninstalling the app effectively removes your association with any stored data. If you would like your Firestore record explicitly deleted, contact us at the address below.
